Operation Tiny Tails
No puppy or kitten left behind.
Every spring, animal shelters face a heartbreaking reality. Across the country, pregnant animals, nursing moms, and newborn babies are the first pets at risk due to a shortage of resources, space, and time.
Caring for these pets requires weeks of bottle feedings, medical care, and safe shelter until they’re old enough for adoption, something that many facilities simply don’t have, putting these families at a high risk of euthanasia.
Operation: Tiny Tails is changing that story. YOUR donation is making a difference.
Other Ways You Can Give
For a newborn animal, the first days of life can mean the difference between survival and tragedy. Tiny bodies, delicate mothers, and uncertain circumstances put them at extreme risk, but through Operation: Tiny Tails, and with love, care, and vital resources that make the biggest difference, we can change their story.
At Helen Woodward Animal Center, we are there every step of the way for new mothers and their babies, providing warmth, nourishment, and round-the-clock support during this critical time. Your donation ensures that these vulnerable families get the care they desperately need during these early days.
Sushi
Sushi’s story is one of heartbreak and hope, but time was dangerously short. Rescued in Coronado, a community where too many animals are abandoned under the assumption someone else will care for them, 1-year-old Sushi arrived at the Center with her five tiny, one-day-old puppies clinging to life. Born into uncertainty, these fragile babies relied entirely on their devoted mother, who needed to keep them warm and fed.
Without immediate help, Sushi and her litter might not have survived. But thanks to our emergency care, they were finally able to rest in a safe, nurturing space, where they received warmth, nourishment, and love during those critical first days.
Sushi and her babies: Edamame, Wasabi, Tempura, Sashimi, and Tamaki are a stark reminder of the countless vulnerable mothers and litters at risk every day.
Your support can save lives like theirs. Every donation ensures we’re here to rescue, care for, and give these families a fighting chance.
Coral
Coral was found abandoned in a neighborhood in the Chula Vista area about a month ago. She was alone and struggling to survive. A good Samaritan took her in, simply hoping to give the frightened cat a safe place to rest. As time passed, it became clear that Coral was expecting, and the woman realized she needed more help to ensure both Coral and her babies would be safe. Determined to give them a chance, she reached out for help.
When Coral arrived at our Center in March, she was frightened and exhausted. Just one day later, she gave birth to four tiny kittens. For the first time, Coral could finally welcome her babies, Sand, Dollar, Pooka, and Shell into the world in a warm, calm, and protected environment.
But those first weeks of life are incredibly fragile. New mothers and their kittens require constant care, proper nutrition, medical attention, and a safe, peaceful place to grow.
Your generosity helps provide the food, medical care, and shelter Coral and her kittens need during this critical time.
