Operation Tiny Tails
No puppy or kitten left behind.
Every spring, animal shelters face a heartbreaking reality. Across the country, pregnant animals, nursing moms, and newborn babies are the first pets at risk due to a shortage of resources, space, and time.
Caring for these pets requires weeks of bottle feedings, medical care, and safe shelter until they’re old enough for adoption, something that many facilities simply don’t have, putting these families at a high risk of euthanasia.
Operation: Tiny Tails is changing that story. YOUR donation is making a difference.
Since December, we’ve been able to give hope to 9 moms and 64 precious babies, providing the care, love, and safety every family deserves.
At Helen Woodward Animal Center, we try to give every mom and baby the chance they deserve. That’s why these families are placed in loving foster homes, where they grow and are nurtured in a safe, quiet environment. You can help give these moms and babies the support they need.
Every donation helps provide the food, bedding, toys, and medical care that keep moms healthy and their babies thriving while they grow in foster homes.

Bagel and Her Bagel Bites
Bagel’s story could have ended before it truly began.
Rescued from an overcrowded shelter in Tulare, California where limited space placed her entire family at risk, this adorable one-year-old Chihuahua blend who is just a puppy herself arrived at Helen Woodward Animal Center with her five tiny puppies, who were only 2½ weeks old.
At that age, puppies are incredibly fragile. They rely completely on their mother for warmth, nutrition, and survival, and even small setbacks can become life-threatening.
Without intervention, families like Bagel’s are often among the first to run out of time in overwhelmed shelters. Not only are they most susceptible to disease but they also require extensive care, daily weigh-ins, frequent medical checks and supplementary nutrition especially with a young and inexperienced mother.
Now safe in foster care, Bagel and her babies are getting the chance they desperately needed. A quiet home, proper nutrition, and the attentive care that helps fragile puppies grow strong enough for adoption.
Operation: Tiny Tails gives our community the chance to be part of their rescue story, helping provide the food, supplies, and medical care this little family needs to survive and thrive.
Fruit Salad and Her Many Fruit Cups
This sweet Tabby cat was found struggling for daily survival out in the Palm Springs desert area with her 8 tiny kittens. She was found emaciated and dehydrated trying her best to nurse these little lives that were depending on her. A homeowner discovered the tiny family outside their home, where there was little shelter and few resources for a vulnerable mother and her babies. We believe Fruit Salad was abandoned, left to fend for herself and her fragile newborns.
When rescuers arrived, she was working hard to care for her eight kittens: Lime, Lemon, Strawberry, Shortcake, Banana, Split, Apple, and Sauce.
Litters this large are rare and incredibly difficult to keep alive. Eight hungry newborns require constant monitoring, extra nutrition for mom, and careful medical oversight, resources many shelters simply cannot provide.
Now in our care, Fruit Salad can focus on what matters most: caring for her babies while our team provides the support this big family needs to survive.
Your support helps provide around-the-clock care for vulnerable families like Fruit Salad’s, ensuring fragile newborns grow into healthy kittens instead of becoming another heartbreaking statistic.
