🩺Spencer's Urgent Surgery
Spencer arrived at Helen Woodward Animal Center only a few weeks old, and this now 15-week-old labrador-retriever blend needs your help.
Originally from a partner in San Antonio, Texas, Spencer came in with his siblings, who medical staff noticed were much larger than him. When he arrived, he was diagnosed with Giardia and hookworm and even after receiving treatment, he still wasn’t gaining weight and started to show symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting, and intermittent reduced appetite.
The Center ran dozens of treatments and tests to determine the cause, resulting in thousands of dollars in medical bills. The medical team determined Spencer was suffering a rare, internal malformation known as intestinal intussusception- which causes a telescoping effect of his intestines, leading to death if not treated immediately. The small pup was rushed into surgery where doctors worked for more than 5 hours to save his young life.
